What is shot peening and when do we use it?

Shot peening treatment is used when we wish to prolong working life of the machine parts. Especially good results can be achieved with parts which are loaded with alternating stress.
 

Examples of machine parts, where shot peening is used are: springs, gear wheels, car parts, drills, axles, parts of weapons,…
For the shotblasting intensity the Almen-test is usually used. According to this treatment, the deformation of test plates is measured. They are clamped to a special test block where they are exposed to the same conditions of shotblasting as the machine parts, which are to be treated.
